It won’t often be considered the most lucrative game in the field of wagering, but keno has millions and millions of steadfast fans. As well it should! It’s a consistently entertaining lotto-type game that’s a snap to learn, readily available in many assorted formats, and one that might yield mega-dollars for players who learn its numerous subtle rules. But let’s deal with the basics here.

When defining keno to novices, some gambling masters compare it to bingo. This is at least partially apt, in that both games are generally numerical. Yet to take that comparison too far will be to detract from the many unique characteristics that make keno so exciting. Unlike bingo, keno users have the freedom to select the numbers for each card.

Keno cards have a grand total of 80 numbers, but the gambler is granted an extra degree of personal responsibility by being able to select as many (or as few) numbers as he or she desires. And it doesn’t take a genius to ascertain how to fill out a card: all you do is circle or otherwise mark all of your selected numbers with a standard#2 pencil like you had when you were in third grade.

After you have marked your numbers, carry the keno card back to the person at the keno booth. The nice person will record your numbers and then give you a receipt. Do not misplace this (potentially) lucrative bit of paper! Even if the clerk remembers your mug and wants help out, without a winning slip with you, you will win exactly $.00 for your actions.

Ok, there you have strategy #1: always take care to keep your keno receipt. Let’s advance to something a little bit more complicated, ok?

Now that you’ve picked your numbers, get yourself into a comfortable keno booth and see the action take place on the big keno monitor. That’s where the winning numbers show up for us. If you marked winners, mark your card appropriately. Sake care not to drag your feet, or sit there praising yourself for too great a length of time. You are required to get up to the keno booth to redeem your winnings, as a new round of keno will almost certainly get going within a few minutes.

Strategy number 2: always get back to the keno booth on time!

Assuming you can’t trust yourself to make that five-minute margin each time, you always retain the option of purchasing a "multi-race" ticket. These include the self same set of your chosen numbers on anywhere from two to 20 slips. When the max number of keno games (the same as the amount of tickets) is played out, you may then get off your numb back side and go collect your winnings.

Another alternative is known as a "stray and play" keno ticket, which commonly allows you make number choices for thirty rounds or more. Heck, you can take a Swedish massage and not have to worry about getting back in time to collect your winnings. Most "stray and play" cards are good for up to a whole year after purchase!

So now you are aware of a couple needed methods for winning keno. If you are a knowledgeable player, they may seem stupidly obvious. However, it won’t hurt to brush up on the basic tactics, and if you are a newbie user, every little bit of information will help make your keno experience more enjoyable.
