The History of Keno

Keno was introduced in two hundred before Christ by the Chinese military commander, Cheung Leung who used keno as a way to finance his failing army. The metropolis of Cheung was waging a war, and after some time appeared to be looking at a country wide famine with the dramatic decrease in supplies. Cheung Leung had to come up with a rapid response for the financial disaster and to acquire income for his military. He therefore created the game we know today as keno and it was a wonderful success.

Keno once was known as the White Pigeon Game, since the winning numbers were delivered by pigeons from bigger municipalities to the smaller villages. The lotto ‘Keno’ was imported to America in the 19th century by Chinese newcomers who headed to the States to work. In those times, Keno used 120 numbers.

Today, Keno is generally bet on with 80 numbers in just about all of American land based casinos as well as web casinos. Keno is mainly enjoyed today because of the laid back nature of betting the game and the simple fact that there are little skills needed to play Keno. Regardless of the fact that the odds of succeeding are horrible, there is constantly the possibility that you could win quite large with a tiny gambling investment.

Keno is enjoyed with 80 numbers with 20 numbers selected each game. Players of Keno can pick from 2 to 10 numbers and bet on them, whatever amount they are able to. The payout of Keno is according to the wagers made and the matching of numbers.

Keno grew in popularity in the US near the end of the 19th century when the Chinese characters were changed with more familiar, US numbers. Lottos were not covered under the laws of wagering in the state of Nevada in 1931. The casinos adjusted the name of the ‘Chinese lotto’ to ‘horse race keno’ employing the concept that the numbers are horses and you are wanting your horses to place. When a law passed that levied a tax on off track wagering, the casinos quickly adjusted the name to ‘Keno’.
