It will not usually be looked at as the best game in the realm of gambling, but keno has millions and millions of devout followers. And it should! It’s a constantly exciting lotto-ish game that’s easy to learn, abundantly available in lots of different variations, and one that will return millions of dollars for players who learn its innumerable subtle nuances. But let’s start with the beginner’s rules here.

When describing keno to amateurs, some gambling masters compare it to the lottery. This is at least to a certain extent apt, in that each game is fundamentally numerical. But to take that comparison too far is likely to be to undervalue the innumerable unique traits that make keno so interesting. Not like bingo, keno gamblers have the freedom to choose the numbers for every card.

Keno cards have a grand total of eighty numbers, but the gambler is furnished with an additional level of personal responsibility by being able to select as many (or as few) numbers as she desires. And it doesn’t take a genius to come up with how to fill out a card: all you do is circle or otherwise mark all your picked numbers with a good oldpen like you had when you were in third grade.

Now that you have picked your numbers, carry the card back to the nice person at the keno stand. The keno pit manager will record those numbers and then hand you a receipt. Don’t drop this (potentially) expensive bit of paper! Even if the clerk remembers your loud shirt and would like to help out, without a winning ticket in hand, you will collect precisely $.00 for your efforts.

Now there you have strategy numero uno: always be sure to keep your keno ticket. Let’s go on to something a little bit more complicated, what do you think?

Now that you’ve checked off your numbers, get yourself into a comfortable keno booth and see the action take place on the screen. That’s where the winning numbers are shown in lights. If you marked winners, mark your card accordingly. Be sure not to take too much time, or sit there congratulating yourself for an obnoxious length of time. You really want to get up to the keno stand to collect your winnings, and a new drawing will almost certainly start up within a few minutes.

Strategy number 2: always make sure to get back to the keno stand on time!

Assuming you do not trust yourself to meet that 5 minute deadline every time, you always have the option of using a "multi-race" ticket. These include the self same set of your desired numbers on anywhere from two to 20 slips. When the maximum amount of keno games (fitting the number of tickets) is finished, you can then get off your numb bum and go get your winnings.

Yet an additional alternative is known as a "stray and play" keno slip, which commonly allows you make number picks for 30 keno rounds or more. Golly, you can take a Swedish massage and not have to get uptight about getting back in time to collect your winnings. Most "stray and play" cards are good for up to a whole year after it’s purchased!

And now you have learned several required techniques for winning keno. If you are an advanced gambler, they may seem stupidly obvious. Still, it will not hurt to brush up on the fundamentals, and if you are a newbie player, every little bit of information will help make your keno playing time more captivating.
